EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (EDP)

Background and target audience:
This 10-module programme, which is aligned to the Senior Management Competency Framework developed by the Department for Public Service and Administration, aims to equip senior managers (Deputy Directors-General, Chief Directors and/or Directors) with the skills and competencies required to perform effectively in their day-to-day operations.

Entry requirements:

  • Must be a senior manager (salary level 13-14) in the South African public service;
  • Must be in possession of a B-degree or equivalent qualification. In cases where applicants are not in possession of a B-degree or equivalent qualification, they can pursue Recognition of Prior Learning options through the relevant tertiary institution prior to commencing on the programme. Details may be obtained from PALAMA, but it will not be the responsibility of PALAMA to administer or manage these processes.

Assessments:
Formative assessments: learners will be required to submit a pre-course assignment for each of the ten modules. The results of this assignment, as well as marks allocated for class attendance, group work and group presentations, will jointly contribute towards 40% of the final mark. Summative assessment: on completion of each module learners will be given one month to submit their summative assignment related to that specific module. This assignment will form 60% of the final mark.

Recognition:
Learners that successfully completed the programme will qualify for the Postgraduate Certificate in Executive Leadership from a number of tertiary institutions. Accreditation on National Qualifications Framework Level 7 is currently being pursued through a number of tertiary institutions.
